For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you. ~ Galatians 3:26-29 (NLT)
God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. ~Galatians 4:5-7 (NLT)
Who am I? I am a daughter and a sister. I am a wife and a mother. I am a friend, a co-worker, an employee, and a neighbor. I am a blogger and a volunteer women’s ministry leader. I like to craft, sing, read, and watch old tv series. I love Hallmark movies all year round. These statements may tell you a little bit about who I am, but they don’t tell you the most important thing I am. I am a child of God.
What does it mean for us to be children of God? To me, it means that you and I have a heavenly parent who loves us unconditionally—a parent who loves us just as we are, wherever we are. God loves us when we are on the right path, or when we take a wrong turn. He loves us when we open up to His loving guidance, and when we try to push Him away. He loves us when we are standing tall, and He offers a helping hand when we fall. God loves us so much that He sent His Son into the world, and allowed Him to die so that we would understand the depth of His love for us. I think that is amazing.
There is more to what God is offering us than His unconditional love. He wants us to not only be His children, but to also be heirs to His Kingdom. How do we do that? We can all become His heirs through our faith in Jesus Christ. When we become followers of Christ, we are no longer slaves to the ways of the world. We are made new. We receive the Holy Spirit who prompts us to call out to God as our Father. We are then God’s children and His heirs and we become part of a huge family of faith. I think that is amazing.
I believe that God loves us from our very beginning. He loves us before we know who He is and He pursues us daily, trying to awaken us to what He wants for us. I believe we are all equal in God’s eyes and are pursued and wanted by God. I believe we are all loved as children of our Heavenly Father. Our status doesn’t matter; our gender doesn’t matter; our race doesn’t matter; our physical appearance doesn’t matter; and our heritage doesn’t matter. I think that is amazing.
Live as though you know you are a loved child of God. I pray that you will accept His invitation to be an heir to His Kingdom.
