Change that Makes a Difference

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.  Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.  Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.  ~Ephesians 4:21-24

I recently decided it was time to get serious about losing some weight, but I didn’t want to go on a diet.   I knew from past experience that the only way to be successful was to follow a plan that would help me change my lifestyle and eating habits long-term.  I paid my fee, dowloaded an app, and began to do some research.  I explored the list of “free” foods and low point foods.  I looked up restaurants to see which ones had menu items that would fit into my plan.  I looked up some of my favorite high-point treats, so that I could find a way to fit them into my new lifestyle and eating plan.  And I made the decision to exercise on a regular basis.

It’s been three weeks and I have lost a little bit of weight, but you can’t see it yet.  I don’t feel it yet, either.  I want the pounds to fall away quickly, but it doesn’t work that way.  I have to continue making good food choices.  I have to exercise regularly.  I need to get adequate sleep every night.  If I want to see a visible difference in my weight, I have to work at it—everyday.

A difference in my physical appearance isn’t the only change I’d like to see.  I’d also like to see a change in my spiritual “appearance”.  I want to be more deeply committed to my walk as a disciple of Christ.  I need to lose the habits and attitudes that hinder my relationship with my Heavenly Father.  I need to exercise my prayer muscles by talking to God on a regular basis and listening for His responses.  I need to open my heart to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  I need to seek words of wisdom from the spiritual mentors God has place in my life.  And I need to study His Word more seriously so that I can better understand His will for my life.

Change that makes a difference doesn’t come easily.   As is the case with my endeavor to lose weight, my desire to grow as a Christian also requires a plan and some action.   God has provided the resources, but If I want to see noticeable spiritual growth, I have to work at it—everyday.

Why about you?  Are there some changes you would like to make in your life?  We can be encouragers of each other as we work to bring about positive change that makes a difference.

Blessings!

My hospital stay has created havoc with my prayer life. I continued to speak to God but couldn’t do my daily routine of devotions. I missed that.
Now that I’m home I can get back on track & hopefully make it to church tomorrow. I miss my great church family & thank God that they were there for me & continue to be there for me
Thanks Terri for being there 😇🙏🌈💜
